Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD wrapped the filming of its 100th episode shortly before Thanksgiving. The episode is now is post production and editing, having the special effects CGI added before it airs on ABC in February – during ratings sweeps.

When the episode airs, the show will officially join the list of longest-running genre TV series at the No. 39 spot, tied with Fringe. After SHIELD finishes its 22-episode current season, it will have 110 episodes, tying Babylon 5 for the No. 32 spot on our list.

As we take a mid-season count during the holiday break, a few shows already in the 100+ club have added new episodes since our last update in November.

Supernatural on CW is padding its already sizable lead, ranking No. 1 with 273 episodes.  When it ends its 23-episode 13th season, the show should be at 287 episodes aired, 33 more than No. 2, Bewitched.

ABC’s Once Upon a Time currently is at 143 episodes, breaking into the Top 20 – at No. 20. Since the last update, the show passed Futurama, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and I Dream of Jeannie. When it ends its 7th season of 22 episodes, the show will be at No. 16 on the list with 155 episodes, just below Twilight Zone.

At 124 episodes so far, CW’s Arrow is No. 26, passing Grimm, Lost, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Batman since the last update.

Finally, the most recent addition to the list, The Walking Dead jumped up four spots to No. 33 with 107 episodes. It passed Ghost Whisperer, My Favorite Martian, Adventures of Superman, and Person of Interest since the last update. When it ends its 16-episode 8th season in the spring of 2018, TWD should be at the No. 31 spot with 115 total aired episodes.

To qualify for the Genre list, the TV series must meet the following criteria aside from airing at least 100 episodes:

  1. Must not be regularly serialized,
  2. Must not have regularly had multiple episodes shown several times in one week,
  3. Must focus on science fiction or fantasy content, and
  4. Must have aired in evening prime time.
EXAMPLE:  The  original Doctor Who is not included as it ran in a serial format for much of its life with many individual episodes of its 155 stories airing before prime time.

In the case of a tie, the series with the most seasons gets precedence.
