Warner Bros. preps live action Daphne and Velma movie for 2019

Warner Bros. started production for a feature-length live action made-for-streaming film about the women of the Scooby Doo franchise.

Starring are Sarah Jeffrey (Wayward Pines) and Daphne Blake, and former Disney Channel star Sarah Gilman as Velma. The plot is an origin story about Daphne and Velma meeting in Ridge Valley High School, where Daphne is the new kid.

According the the production company press release the gist of the film is, “Before their eventual team-up with Scooby and the gang, bright and optimistic Daphne and whip-smart and analytical Velma are both mystery-solving teens who are best friends but have only met online — until now. Daphne has just transferred to Velma’s school, Ridge Valley High, a tech-savvy institute with all the latest gadgets provided by the school’s benefactor, tech billionaire Tobias Bloom. And while competition is fierce among the students for a coveted internship at Bloom Innovative, Daphne and Velma dig beyond all the gadgets and tech to investigate what is causing some of the brightest students in school to disappear — only to emerge again in a zombie-fied state.”

The project is being produced by Warner Television’s digital studio, Blue Ribbon Content. Although the final product is headed to TV, not theaters, the studio was mum on its exact distribution plans.
